Buddha Early 19th Century Carved Giltwood Avaloketesvara Buddha. 21 inches tall. The name Avaloketesvara means someone who helps with all kinds of distress and dangers. The literal meaning of Avaloketesvara is ‘the lord who looks down’, the implication being that he looks down with compassion. He is often depicted with many arms and faces.
